SWD & VASTU ARCHITECTURAL INTERIOR DESIGN – A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN.

Recently featured in Architectural Digest India, this remarkable London residence showcases the creative partnership between Rina Patel, founder of Vastu Interior Design, and the SWD team. The project reflects a shared philosophy: that exceptional interiors are born from both intuition and collaboration.

From bold colour choices to intricate detailing, the home balances richness and restraint. Across 35 bespoke door sets and a series of custom lattice overlays, SWD’s craftsmanship helped to bring Rina’s layered vision to life, creating a space where modern geometry and traditional materials meet with effortless precision.

Personality And Colour

For Rina Patel, every project begins with getting to know the client deeply. “Not everybody needs to like your house,” she says, “as long as you love it.” In this home, it would be hard not to like the bold choices Rina makes. The palette is a confident composition of reds and maroons, chosen not for trend but for resonance with the client. These hues complemented the hand-picked marble fireplace surround, and ground the interiors with warmth and individuality.

This project was never about the neutral minimalism, instead, Rina curated a scheme that captures the client’s essence and personal preference. SWD’s contribution, from rich timber finishes to the soft antiquity of brass hardware, reinforced that sense of continuity throughout the interior.

A Collaboration Built On Trust

Large residential projects are a combination of detail and coordination, often spanning 18 months to two years. In Rina’s words, “The Construction phase, is like a party, and you invite everyone that you want to work with.” SWD was one of those trusted partners. “SWD are a lovely family to work with,” Rina says. “Issues always happen, it’s normal, but they solve them swiftly. The level of work never disappoints.” That partnership of trust underpins every successful collaboration.

SWD’s ability to handle complex joinery requirements, from precise technical detailing to flawless finishes, ensured that the doors became an extension of the internal architecture, not an afterthought.

Geometry And Detail

One of the home’s most defining architectural notes is a series of seven bespoke doors, fixed with metal lattice overlays, that frame the partition wall beside the Cigar Lounge. Selected for their intricate geometric detail, the pieces were crafted in walnut and finished in SWD’s signature T-122 oak stain.

For Rina, the decision was about balance: “In every room, you have to decide which feature is the star player and which is the supporting character. The Lattice Deco doors have a strong geometric presence, but they’re not overbearing.”

Cohesion

Throughout the home, Rina and SWD developed a visual rhythm using different door models to respond to each space. On the ground floor, Model 150 ALU with antique brass inlays offers continuity without diluting the impact of the Lattice Deco design.

Ascending to the first floor, the aesthetic subtly evolves: a model featuring double inlays and a diamond veneer pattern at its centre introduces layers of texture. “Not every door needs to be a feature,” added Rina, “but it’s good to highlight the primary doors, the ones you see and touch most often.”

This approach reflects SWD’s ability to not only be flexible with designs but to adapt styles, finishes and finer details to ensure visual cohesion across an entire property.

The Return Of Brass

To complete the scheme, the SWD Olivia Lever on Rose handle finished in antique brass. The choice tied every element together.

Rina notes a cyclical shift in hardware trends: “We’ve gone from chrome to nickel to black, and we are returning to brass. It adds warmth and richness, and it keeps the doors grounded in their frames.”

Here, brass works not as ornamentation but as a tone; a bridge between the deep tone of the joinery and the bold hues of the interiors. It’s a finish that feels both timeless and current, much like the project itself.

Craftsmanship At Every Level

Beyond design, this project demonstrates SWD’s commitment to precision. The combination of artisanal skill and technical capability allows designers like Rina Patel to push creative boundaries, confident that the execution will match the concept.

“The style captured the client’s essence,” Rina reflects. “It wasn’t neutral, and it wasn’t ‘safe’, but it worked because it felt authentic.”

For SWD, that authenticity defines our collaborations and the result is an interior that feels curated, not constructed: a property where each detail contributes to the creation of a home.
